Background

Sallie Curtis Elementary is named after Sallie Curtis who taught math in South Park School District for 32 years. Mrs. Curtis started teaching in 1911 and died in 1943. The school was built in 1956 with originally fourteen classrooms and had 502 students. Enrolment increased so much that ten extra classrooms were added the next year. C. E. Reid, Jr. was the first principal.

Today, the school has 29 classrooms with several temporary classrooms with an enrollment of over 570 students.
